Cape Town (South Africa): Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Thursday that veteran campaigner Faf du Plessis has been released from the squad ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against England.
The decision was made to give the former captain some respite. In addition to du Plessis, Kagiso Rabada, Paite van Bilzan, Bjorn Fortuin and Reza Hendricks have also been released from the team.
“The following players have been released from the team to join their franchise teams in the CSA four-day domestic series or for rest and / or recovery; (All to return to the 4-day domestic series), ”the CSA said in an official statement.
Du Plessis made his last appearance in the three-match T20I series against England. The right-handed batsman managed to score 121 runs in three matches, his highest score being 58 in the first T20.
Earlier this week, Proteas pacer Kagiso Rabada was ruled out of the ODI series against England due to proper adductor pressure.
CSA has confirmed that Rabada’s injury will take about three weeks to heal. Rabada was last seen in the T20I series against England. The paceman made his first appearance in T20 and he managed to get just one wicket. The first ODI of the three-match series between England and South Africa will be held on Friday.
