Bombolim: Mumbai City FC recorded their fourth win in the Indian Super League on Wednesday with a 2-1 win over Chennaiyin FC.
Adam Le Fondre won the 75th minute after Hernan Santana (45th) overturned Jakub Sylvester’s first goal.
Sergio Lobera’s side have topped the ISL table.
It’s not often that Lobera makes many changes to his starting eleven. But on Wednesday, four changes were made to Mumbai City and Le Fondre and Santana started the game. Amy Ranawade and Rainier Fernandez are the other two.
Sasaba Laszlo opted for a double change for the team that lost to Bangalore FC. Fathkhullo Fathkhullov and Jarmanpreet Singh started for Chennaiyin FC in place of Esmail Goncalves and Anirudh Thapa.
Chennaiyin FC had a perfect start and could have advanced in the second minute if Sylvester had not lost the sitter. Rafael Crivellaro delivered a perfect corner, which Enes Sipovic fired and found Sylvester who missed the target.
Mumbai was not good and it took time to settle down. But they had their moments. The home side had their best chance in the 25th minute when Adam Le Fondre had a clear vision of the goal, but his powerful drive from inside the box was kept by keeper Vishal Keith. The rebound fell to Bipin Singh, but he could not use the opportunity.
Chennaiyin were clearly the better team in the opening quarter, creating numerous chances through Lalianzuala Changte, Sipovic and Crivellaro. The Chennai-based team took the lead in the 40th minute. Sylvester maybe .She scored the easiest goal of the season.
Changte deserved the right for his opening spadework before playing a low cross from the byline to find Sylvester, who slotted it.
While it seems that Chennaiyin’s goal is going to be breathing with profit, the offspring of Mumbai had different plans. The Spaniard, unmarked in a distant post, headed to the corner of Hugo Boumus to restore equality.
The intensity dropped after the restart but Chennaiyin continued to test Mumbai’s defenses. However, Mourtada Fall and keeper Amrinder Singh were excellent in the second half.
In the 75th minute, Mumbai doubled the lead with another set piece. Ahmad Zahou flies a long free-kick to Rowlin Borges Boumas. The Frenchman made his way to Le Fondre, nearing completion.
Cheneyin scored the equalizer during the stoppage, but Sylvester’s header narrowed wide.
