NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has decided not to celebrate her birthday on December 9 in support of agrarian laws and farmers’ agitation against the country’s Kovid-19 situation.
According to party sources, the Congress general secretary has been in charge of all the states and the PCC president, addressing the havoc caused by the Kovid-19 pandemic around the country and the “tough” farm bills against the farmers’ movement, Sonia Gandhi has decided not to celebrate her birthday this year.
“Farmers are on the streets and brutally oppressed by the government. Instead of celebrating, Congress leaders must strengthen their efforts to provide relief to all who suffer and support the fight against Andatas,” Sonia Gandhi told All Sources.
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal has asked all state heads of Congress to avoid all sorts of celebrations, including cutting cake on Sonia Gandhi’s birthday.
The Congress has expressed its support for the ‘Bharat Bandh’ call issued by peasant organizations and urged party workers to hold demonstrations in all district centers across the country.
