New Delhi: There has been no talks about injecting the entire population of the country through the Kovid-19 vaccine, the central government said on Tuesday.
Answering a question at a press conference, ICMR Director General Balaram Bhargava said the purpose of the Kovid vaccine drive was to break the chain of viral transmission.
“Our aim is to break the virus-spreading chain. If we can vaccinate critical masses and break the transmission chain, we don’t have to vaccinate the entire population,” he said.
“The role of masks is also very important and will continue even after vaccination. Because we are starting with a small group of the population at a time and therefore the masks are protective and will continue to be used to help break the chain. The viral spread,” Bhargava said.
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has said that there has never been any talks about injecting the entire population with the Kovid-19 vaccine.
“I want to make it clear that the government has never talked about vaccinating the whole country. It is important that we discuss such scientific matters and analyze them only on the basis of factual information,” Bhushan said.
