Akal Takht Acting Jathedar Gianni Harpreet Singh has advised the Center to “understand the suffering of farmers and leave their stubbornness”. Speaking to the media on Wednesday in Amritsar, Singh said, “If a government is angry with the people and the people … it (the central government) should understand the ‘mann ki baat’ of the peasants and scrap all three laws immediately. Responding to a question about the Khalistani angle of the protest, he accused a section of the media of pulling the government’s path to stir up the peaceful struggle of the farmers.
“There is a conspiracy to torpedo the peasant movement by linking it with Khalistan, which has no concern or connection with the struggle of Indian farmers,” he said. “The economy of other countries is down because of the Kovid-19 epidemic, but India’s only saving is agriculture, which has played a crucial role not only in maintaining economic growth but also in accelerating it,” Singh said. He asked the bodies of peasants to maintain fancy and conduct their protests peacefully.
