NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday attacked the Center on charges of doubling the income of farmers and alleging that their income is “half” under ‘suit-boot Sarkar’, while its crony friends’ income has quadrupled.
His remarks came at a time when farmers of Punjab and Haryana were protesting against the new agrarian reform laws of the center at the borders of the nation’s capital, Singu, Tikri and Gazipur.
“The income of the farmers will be doubled. They have quadrupled the income of ‘friends’ and the income of the farmers will be cut in half. This suit-boot government is lying and plundered,” Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.
Congress leaders also shared a video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech that used violence and force against protesting farmers, saying his government was taking steps to address the problems faced by farmers and to double their income.
Congress has been attacking the government over the use of force against protesting farmers and has demanded the divestment of new agricultural laws and addresses the grievances of the protesters.
