New Delhi: Falling Trees “In the name of Lord Krishna” is not allowed, the Supreme Court said on Wednesday and asked the UP government to evaluate the plants it intends to cut for its Krishna-Govardhan road project in Mathura.
The assessment needs to be done not by their “tree value” but by their “oxygen production capacity”. In the order of the CJI SA Bobde and Justice AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, the Forest Department gave the authorities four weeks to assess how to evaluate the trees in question and to inform them of the assessment methodology they wanted to adopt. The state government has applied for the cutting of 2,940 trees for the project.
