MUMBAI: Shiv Sena legislator Pratap Sarnayak and his son Vihang failed to attend a logistics court on Thursday for questioning in connection with a money laundering case.
ED had called Vihang for the fifth time on Thursday, but he failed to show that his wife was ill. Sarnayak, who said he had just returned home from the trip and was in quarantine, had earlier requested a week off.
ED officials declined to comment on their further actions.
During the course of the investigation, the ED had collected a number of documents, including a foreign bank account in the name of Pratap Sarnayak, which he wanted to deal with. ED officials are also said to have found suspicious transactions and companies related to Sarnayak.
Meanwhile, the ED went to the Bombay High Court on November 29 to challenge the special holiday session judge’s order dismissing Sarnik’s aide Amit Chandol’s plea to extend his remand.
The trial judge had sent Chandol to judicial custody until December 9, saying the ED “hampered his investigation.” The agency has sought Chandol’s extradition from the High Court to continue its investigation. The Bombay High Court will hear the matter on Friday.
