London: In a surgical feat, doctors have performed surgery on a woman, claiming it was Europe’s first hysterectomy with a small ision in her abdomen, with no skin visible on the outside.
Known as single ision laparoscopic surgery, this technique is the latest development of keyhole surgery, using a TV monitor to insert equipment through the abdomen, including a small camera and surgeon’s manipulation.

Thomas Ind, a surgeon who led the team who performed the hysterectomy, said the procedure to remove the uterus on a woman named Debbie Price is an extension of what is already being done with keyhole methods.
Instead of making three or four holes for instruments, we only make one hole. Patients like the idea of not having three or four small scars on their stomachs, he said. Price, 46, has decided to go into operation after suffering for years with adenomyosis and the uterine lining grows into uterine muscles.
