Mumbai: Bombay University and College Teachers Union has written to Mumbai University (MU) seeking clarity on conducting semester end exams for first year students. The union claims that there is no clarity on the schedule for colleges to follow and that various clusters are being given verbal contradictory directions.

The union said in its letter that they were shocked that MU was communicating information to the clusters regarding the schedule for the first semester exam. Teachers said some clusters were asked to run tests in the first week of January, some in the second week, and others were asked to roll out all tests by December 18, according to the November 18 circular. The last day of admission to the first year was in November, but many colleges filled their seats in September.

MU has not yet released an academic calendar, which will give colleges more clarity to plan their year, teachers said. The college principal indicated that the MU still had to issue a circular in the November 18 circular clarifying vague points.
