Pune: The Baya Karve Award for Women Social Workers of the Year has been awarded to Joya Tasung Moyong, Secretary General of Social Evil Against Women in Pasighat, a non-governmental organization based in Pasighat in the East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, according to the Maharishi Karve Stri Shikshan Sanstha (MKSSS).

Every year, on November 29, in honor of Bharat Ratna Maharishi Dhondo Keshav Karve’s wife, Baya Karve, the prestigious Baya Karve Award is given to a woman social worker or teacher to be recognized for her exemplary work in her field. The year 2020-21 is the 25th year of the Baya Carve Award. Many accomplished social workers and academics have received this prestigious award for their exemplary work in the past.

The award recipients are selected each year by an independent selection committee consisting of eminent personalities of social and academic reputation. This year, Dr. Anjali Deshpande and Seema Kamble and Sanstha Chairperson Smita Gaisas were the members of the committee for the selection of qualified candidates.

The awards ceremony was held at the Karve Nagar campus of MKSSS and was presented to Moong by the National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Sunil Deodhar.
